Aug. 23, 2023: Remembering our late past president Stu Leibowitz
Eleven years ago, today – on Aug. 23, 2012 – the DC 37 Retirees Association lost a valiant fighter with the passing of Stu Leibowitz, who was a longtime president of the Association at the time of his death.
According to Retirees past president Ed Hysyk, “Stu’s past accomplishments included being the VP of Research and Negotiations for Social Service Employees Union, Local 371, for more than 20 years and being a deputy chair of the Office of Collective Bargaining (OCB). He was responsible for getting the City of New York to reimburse City retirees for their Medicare Part B expense, and he reinvigorated the DC 37 Retirees Association during his tenure as its president. Stu, we all miss you in these trying times when we are fighting to keep our retiree health benefits. May you rest in eternal peace.”
The DC 37 Public Employee Press ran an article in 2012 about Stu’s passing, which called him a “labor warrior” and outlined his remarkable service to the labor movement and to DC 37 Retirees. Stu is shown above at an AFSCME national convention. Please take a moment to read and be inspired by Stu Leibowitz’s story at http://www.dc37pep.net/news/PEP/10_2012/a_labor_warrior.html
