Robert Gervasi worked at New York City Parks & Recreation from September 1968 thru December 2000. He worked in several capacities from Attendant (L. 1505), Park Maintainer (L. 983), Park Supervisor (L.1508) & Principal Park Supervisor (L. 1508).

While in L. 1508, Mr. Gervasi served as a Shop Steward, Recording Secretary and Vice President.  In 1970 while employed in NYC service, he was drafted into the US Army. Upon completion of Basic & Advanced Individual (Infantry) Training, he was deployed to Vietnam where he served with Co. D 2/501st Infantry 101st Airborne Division from September 1970 thru September 1971. He returned to the U.S. and separated from military service in December of 1971 with the rank of Sergeant (E-5).

In May of 1974, Mr. Gervasi was recalled to active military duty to supplement troop shortages due to the ending of the draft. He served an additional 17 years of military service in the New York Army National Guard while attaining the rank of Platoon Sergeant (E-7). Military Awards/decorations include the Combat Infantryman Badge, Air Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, 2 (two) Army Commendation medals, Army Achievement Medal plus other awards and decorations.

Upon his retirement from the City in December of 2000, Mr. Gervasi began work in the Blue Collar Division of District Council 37 as a Council Representative in 2001. He was promoted to Assistant Division Director in the Blue Collar Division in 2017/2018. He retired from District Council 37 in September of 2020 and was elected president of the DC 37 Retirees Association in 2022. He also serves on the DC 37 Executive Board as a Vice President representing the DC 37 Retirees Association.
