Petrona Barrett-Graham
Petrona Barrett-Graham migrated from Jamaica to the United States and became a United States
citizen over thirty years ago. Petrona Graham was employed by New York City Department of
Environmental Protection (DEP) as a Clerical Associate for over twenty eight (28) years. While
working at DEP Petrona joined DC37 Union – Local 1549 and was a very active member.
Petrona held several positions with Local 1549, the first being shop steward for DEP Bronx
Office, then she became a union delegate representing the employees of Local 1549. In addition,
Petrona was the West Bronx Community association coordinator for DC37 Political Action
committee and the liaison for DC37 Communication BronxNet television station.
Petrona is currently an Executive Board member of DC37 Retirees Association where she serves
as the Associate Vice President for the Housing committee. She is also a member of Coalition of
Black Trade Unionists (CBTU) where she held the position of Treasurer for ten years and the
Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW). She remains involved in her church and a member
of her church board. She continues to live her life with her motto “With God all things are
possible.”
